It happened

I was called to the bar.
It's not like being a damn B.A in Philosophy- I don't get called a Philosopher (there are some people who call themselves Philosophers because they pick up degrees in Philosophy- funny )
It's not like being a engineer and people still think you're normal- or like being a doctor and people thinking you have so much to give.
Being a lawyer is like having a cachet that is in some ways similar to being a doctor- you have something people want but .... with a lawyer they have to make a deal with the devil to get it. Or at least that's what I feel sometimes. It's strange- lawyers have a really bad rap in society and yet at the law society they keep telling us how it is a noble calling and it is a hallowed profession that maintains the highest standards of ethics and propriety. Something is off. I wonder who is right- 'us' lawyers talking about themselves or society at large talking about us.
Maybe if legal aid were expanded and lawyers were paid to provide service to society at large then they would be seen as givers rather than takers. On the other hand, commercial lawyers like me would probably still be seen as money grubbing takers. I guess I would despise money grubbing doctors too but the problem is doctors have knowledge of life and death not taxes and as much as life, death and taxes are your eternal companions, some life and deaths are more important that others. Don't pay your taxes and you may go to jail. Don't take care of life and quickly (as opposed to slowly) you will be ... death.
We are like brokers and real estate agents- we may be facilitators sometimes but most times we are parasites, living off the others' dealing, an unfortunate burden on their transactions.
