The College Street Bar

We went to the College Street Bar. We ordered five drinks. As I looked to close out my tab I saw the bartender add a drink on there and then print the visa bill for me. It was 34.50. I asked her for a receipt (something that would detail which drinks because there is no way five drinks could have been that much). She said she didn't print it out. She refused to print out the receipt saying she didn't know how much I drank. I had actually added a tip of five dollars to the total cost. I'm now considering whether I should dispute the charge. I feel like I should go over and have a talk with the manager and at least complain about the fact that I wasn't provided a receipt. At the end of the day I paid about five dollars extra (counting what I would have tipped). But it makes me wonder why I tip so much in the first place. I think I really need to scale back the tipping especially in bars to the 7-10% range. Too often I find myself paying out money in too large tips for subpar service in Toronto.

This deliciously self-righteous story reminds me of an airport meeting with Doctor Abdullah Alashayea at Copenhagen's airport, Kastrup. Doctor Abdullah Alashayea, resplendantly garbed in thawb and keffiyeh, had been delayed at Schipol airport on his way from Saudi Arabia. The gate attendant had been curt with Doctor Abdullah Alashayea and he wasn't pleased.

I asked him,

-Doctor, what shall do to make you feel better?

He shouted while waving a finger in the air,

-he must be punished!

So Doctor Abdullah Alashayea went down to the KLM office in Kastrup.
